Poker Freerolls Schedule Poker Freerolls explained by the Poker Link Directory Poker freerolls are increasingly popular promotions which every respectable online poker room offers these days. These freerolls cost nothing to enter, and they feature guaranteed real money prize-pools which the poker room pays. Some of these freerolls feature symbolic prizes, other actually manage to deliver real value. There are several types of freerolls. Some poker rooms only offer such free tournaments to players who satisfy some kind of condition. Beginner freerolls for instance, are only accessible to newly signed up players. Some freerolls offer huge prize-pools but these are usually reserved to players who win a special entry ticket through some sort of rake race or a preliminary tournament victory. Few poker rooms allow all comers to play in their freerolls without any sort of condition whatsoever. Still those that do, get a fairly nice amount of player traffic on account of it. Playing in a freeroll is an excellent way to kick-start a bankroll without ever putting a single cent of your own money in harm’s way. The first thing you need to do, is to find the room with the best EV freerolls, one that lets everyone play and offers a reasonably generous prize-pool. Once you know where to play, you need to brush up a bit on how to play. Freeroll strategy is unlike anything else, because freerolls are not like regular real-money tournaments, and they’re definitely not like cash games. In a freeroll it’s usually not enough to just make it into the money. Even the most generous ones barely offer a few cents for those who catch the last paying positions, so you have to go for all the marbles. Sure, you won’t get to the final table in one or two or maybe not even in a dozen tries, but since it costs you nothing to play, all you’ll lose is time (which can sometimes be extremely valuable too). Poker strategy experts have identified two basic types of tournament players: the farmers (those who aim to cruise into the money on tight and passive play) and foxes, (those who aim for victory). In order to be successful, you need to be a shrewd mix of the two types. In the beginning of a freeroll, there’s a lot of chaotic play going on. Some players will risk their entire stack time and time again to either double up and thus give themselves a better chance, or to bust out early thus saving all the time they would’ve spent playing and still busting out before the money later. This is a logic that may work for some, but if you’re really set on starting up a respectable bankroll, stay out of trouble early on, The risks that you’d take are simply not worth the possible rewards, so stay put and try to trap some ‘wise-guy’ on a monster hand. As the game progresses, you need to step it up a little. Keep an eye on your stack at all times, and on its proportionality with the blinds. Make adjustments to your basic strategy according to the set of rules established by Dan Harrington. As you near the middle stages of the tourney, and the blinds slowly begin to escalate, you need to pull your blinds-stealing skills off the shelf and dust them off because you’ll need them. At this stage, stealing some blinds will be the key to your survival. As you near the bubble, you’ll notice that game-play tightens up a bit. This is when all the farmers batten down the hatches to avoid being knocked out on the verge of making it to the money. This is when you have to turn into a fox, and start plundering the farmers’ livestock. All tightened up as they are, most of these guys are more than willing to let go of value they would defended under different circumstances. Mind you that after the bubble bursts, the game will loosen back up again. Depending on the size of your stack, you need to get increasingly aggressive from this point on, becoming a maniac in the heads-up stage if you ever make it. Take the money that you win through a few STTs, cash out, move your bankroll to a poker room which offers you rakeback and a nice deposit bonus, deposit there and begin building your bankroll seriously.
